Ride the wind with Shawna Cropas and Matt Pritchard while living la dolce vita in Wailea, Nov. 10 – 15
Calling all Weekend Warriors: This November the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is offering its first in-house, all-inclusive windsurfing camp at the tony Hawaiian hotel. Eight entrants will spend breakfast, lunch, dinner and all the in between water time breathing surf and wind with two professionals in the field.
The adrenaline-fueled aspects of the 5-day event (Nov. 10 - 15) will be organized by Maui-based outfit Aloha Windsurf Clinic. Partners Shawna Cropas and Matt Pritchard (both of whom hold a number of windsurfing titles; Cropas has also been reported as "a former fashion model") attest that whether or not you've ever been on a board, or are an advanced rider, there's an a spot for you in this camp.
Days will include specially-designed menus by the Four Seasons' chefs, out-of-water exercise regimen (a hike in the Haleakala rainforest, etc.) and evening entertainment. Yet, this isn't any "cycling-tour-through-the-merlot-vineyards" type experience. Cropas and Pritchard employ video and still photography analysis of your lessons, plus in-water, one-on-one timewith the pros.
Rates begin at $5,950 per person for accommodations, meals and all gear rental.
For those unfamiliar, the Kaiwi Channel that stretches between Maui, Lanai and Molokai is an azure, wind-swept tunnel of ocean that attracts windsurfers and watermen from all over the planet. From just in front of the Four Seasons, to the upcountry slopes of Haleakala's world-famous Hookipa Beach Park (where camp participants will have an opportunity to surf during the event)—it's one of the world's top windsurfing destinations.
As for the recent spell of shark "nibbles" that have occurred within wading distance of Wailea… all the more reason for you to get GOOD on a surfboard.
