Saddle Up The Family This Weekend For A Waimea Rodeo

Always eager to promote events that provide scholarships for school-age children, we're thrilled to announce the 33rd Annual Parker Ranch Round-Up Club rodeo, slated for Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2. The two-day fundraiser will take place at the Parker Ranch Rodeo Arena in Waimea -- Hawaii's version of cowboy country. The event benefits kids of the employees of the Parker Ranch -- which is currently celebrating its 160th year.

The family -- style fun kicks off at noon on Saturday with a bevy of rodeo activities, including dally team roping, steer wrestling, double mugging, bull riding (both adult and junior classes), barrel racing, steer un-decorating and wild cow races. If you know what more than half of those activities are, then I'd say you're a prime candidate for someone that would really enjoy them. And bring the kids. The keiki barrel racing and mutton busting (we learned the latter means "sheep riding") are sure to offer many a classic photo opportunity.

Sunday will feature more rodeo action; both days, a number of food and beverage booths will feature fresh ono grinds (good eats), gifts, activities and souvenirs to purchase. The Parker Ranch was founded inĀ 1847 and spans 150,000 pristine Big Island of Hawaii acres nestled between the Kohala Mountains and Mauna Kea. The rodeo grounds are 37 miles from the Kona International Airport, and 57 miles from the Hilo Airport.

Tickets for the event are $6; children under 10 are free. Visit or call (808) 885-5669 for more information.
