Nobu Matsuhisa Cooks for You, Is Inspired by MA`O

A Week of Events Offers Patrons the Chance to Sip Cocktails, Eat Omakasa with the Restaurateur

Nobu Matsuhisa Cooks for You, Is Inspired by MA`O

Nobu enthusiasts rejoice: The man himself will be on O`ahu from February 9 – 12, 2010, to eat, drink and prepare his signature fare just for you. The global restaurateur will also work closely with MA`O Organic Farms to design an omakase menu inspired by the harvest of produce from the Waianae-based outfit. Twenty percent of the sales from this nightly menu (while Nobu is in town) will return to the farm in support of its sustainable internship programs, scholarships and efforts to expand their 16.5 acre farm.

The omakase menu, available the 9th through the 13th, will cost $125 per person.

On Thursday, February 11, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa will open eight (8) seats at his sushi bar and conduct his first "Art of Sushi & Sake Tasting Class" in the State of Hawaii. For those who make these reservations, you'll learn the preparations and stories behind many of his world-renown signature sushi and cold dishes. From styles of carving, to fish selection and sake pairing, Nobu will divulge his secrets to 8 lucky attendees. Guests will also receive Nobu's cookbook (which he will sign), an apron, masu and maki sushi. Following the class, guests will lunch with Matsuhisa. Cost is $300 per person, space is limited. Call (808) 237-6999 to snag a spot.

The same evening (Thursday, Feb. 11), Matsuhisa will head in to the lounge at Nobu Waikiki and mingle with guests during Happy Hour. From 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m., you can imbibe on a three-course "Aperitivo" for $18, which are inspired by MA`O and bar manager Dave Newman. There will be opportunity to have your copy of Nobu's latest cookbook personalized.

Nobu serves dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. nightly (10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturdays); The Lounge is open until midnight.

[Editor's Note: For those of us trying to enjoy an upscale, urban vibe—please leave the surf t-shirts and baseball caps at home. Management urges: "Beachwear is prohibited".]
