Which holiday card hanging on your refrigerator do you remember best? Why, it's the one that was hand-written on custom stationary, of course. It's elegance harkens back to a time before email, when kind words were scripted, stamped and mailed on a regular basis. It seems like a distant memory.
A new store on Waikiki's Beachwalk is banking on a resurgence of the written art form, and they take a convincing stance. "Bittner, The Pleasure of Writing", recently opened at the corner of Beachwalk and Kalia Road, undoubtedly preparing for the first residents of the new Trump International Hotel & Tower to move in, right next door.
The beautifully designed boutique devoted to all things written was pieced together by Joe Corelli's Koa, a designer that specifies in koa wood furnishings (there are also highlights of curly maple and ebony throughout the store). The majority of wood used to decorate the interior was harvested naturally from fallen Hawaiian wood.
Bittner carries fine writing instruments from brands that include: Cartier, Bentley, Dunhill, Porsche, Stipula, Namiki, Tibaldi, Elie Bleu and Visconti, to name a few. In addition, the store carries a number of colored inks, hand-made paper, leather journals and other writing accessories.
If you've still got a holiday gift to purchase, or are looking for somewhere to spend your loot, head to this store for elegant, well-crafted gifts. You'll certainly find it a pleasant break from mega-store shopping.
