Big Island Luxury Resort Will Host Dr. Kenny Broad

Nat Geo Expert to Lead Ocean Exploration at Orchid

Ocean enthusiasts and those with a penchant for adventure should consider the freshly announced program coming soon to the Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island of Hawai`i. From June 25–27, 2010, guests of the Kohala Coast luxury resort can join National Geographic environmental anthropologist Dr. Kenny Broad on a two-day exploration that melds snorkeling, underwater photography and an educational presentation to further your knowledge, perception and skills in the water. The hotel will offer a package rate for participants that includes nightly accommodations, welcome reception, daily breakfast for two, activity passes and carte blanche to Hawaiian cultural activities.

The kamaaina rate for this package begins at $239 per night.

Broad will team up with the Orchid's knowledgeable team of Beach Boys (and girls), who routinely educate guests on reef culture, underwater ecosystems, sea turtles, wave navigation, surfing, canoeing, fishpond maintenance and Hawaiian cultural activities.

This package is a part of National Geographic's "Global Explorer Series", which brings experts to public venues and hotels to educate people on responsible tourism and the environment. Currently in its second year, the events have ranged from fly-fishing to safari adventures. The latest additions to the series all focus on the oceans.

The Fairmont Orchid is a 32-acre luxury property with its own lagoon, hiking trails that lead to ancient petroglyphs, and the renowned "Spa Without Walls".
