From the Lodge to Lana‘i City and Manele, the Sound of Sweet Jazz Will Fill the Lana‘i air
Any chance we get to write about Lana‘i, we’re more than thrilled to do so. Tickled pink, one of a certain generation might say. On the weekend of January 13 - 15, 2012, the Four Seasons Resorts Lana‘i will host the Lanai Jazz Festival. From the highland climes of the Lodge at Koele, bebop and swing will drift among the kiawe-scented air, while cool licks and walking bass lines will emanate from the shores of Hulopoe and the Manele Bay Resort. And if the sounds of two of Hawaii’s most exquisite resorts equipped with amazing tunes throughout the weekend isn’t enough for you, well, you’re just not our kind of reader. Move along!
The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, when Skip Martin, Benny Chong, Byron Yasui, David Choi, Benny Uyetake, Sal Godinez, Paul Marchetti and Doug White wail away at the tasty Ihilani restaurant at Manele. (Advance reservations are required.)
Saturday morning, the love spreads to Lana‘i City, where jazz guitarist Benny Uyetake gets the buzz started at Coffee Works from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.; directly following, guitar player Robbie Ray tunes up at Café 565, also in booming Lana‘i City.
The afternoon will kick things up a notch when The Lodge at Koele’s Great Hall features all the players from Friday evening, as a roaring fire blazes and general merriment ensues (4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.). Guests are encouraged to make reservations in the Dining Room or Music Room, where special menus for the festival will be presented.
Sunday morning—the fun ain’t over yet—as Benny Uyetake lights up his axe once again at Blue Ginger Cafe back in town, at 9:00 a.m. Sal Godinez will wrap things up with a hana hou piano performance in the Lodge Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Special kama‘aina rates for Hawaii residents are being offered during this weekend; Manele Bay is $199/nt and the Lodge is $179/nt. Visit www.fourseasons.com/lanai for more information, or call (800) 321-4666.
