The Modern Honolulu, Hawaii’s most fashion-forward boutique hotel, will delve into fall with a series of special events revolving around film and fashion. Hitting its stride as ground zero for the international jet set, the hotel will host special sessions this October for the launch of Hawaii Fashion Month, the MIss Hawaii USA pageant and the Hawaii International Film Festival. Entertainment and fashion tastemakers, gorgeous and talented Hawaiian women, and the barrage of media that follows each will be further spreading the buzz about Honolulu’s trendiest hotel.
On the evening of October 13, The Modern Honolulu will host the 2013 Annual Miss Hawaii USA pageant. One talented and gorgeous young lady will wow past winners, judges and spectators in The Modern Honolulu’s spacious ballroom. The contest begins at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $45 and open to the public. At noon the same day, Miss Teen Hawaii USA will unfold at the same location (tickets are $35).
From October 17 - 20, 2013, The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will present its “New Media Camp” to be held at The Modern Honolulu. This 4-day intensive workshop offers budding stars in the filmmaking business opportunity to rub elbows, workshop, present and garner feedback from some of the top working creators in Hollywood.
Participating mentors range from the most successful YouTube content producers, to Hollywood actors, screenwriters and directors who will help hone your craft in the film arts. The camp culminates in the production of a 3-minute clip that will be presented on the final day in the Dole Cannery Stadium and IMAX theaters. Two videos will be selected by by HIFF panelists to be posted on director Justin Lin’s (of the “Fast & Furious” franchise) YouTube channel as well as HIFF’s Vimeo channel.

The debut of Hawaii Fashion Month in Honolulu will culminate with the “Governor’s Fashion Awards” on October 30, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. at The Modern Honolulu. Governor Neil Abercrombie plays host, as he has supported the effort to spotlight the emerging fashion and associated industries in Hawaii, as well as the players who are making great strides in turning both national and Asia heads in this direction.
Retailer and Designer of the year awards will present huge opportunity for up-and-coming personalities to share their industry know-how. “Lifetime Achievement” and “Outstanding Supporter” awards will let the fashion set know whom is keeping an eye out for the creatively inclined.
The event will culminate in craft cocktails poured by The Modern’s top mixologists, live local music, tasty cuisine and socializing in one of The Modern Honolulu’s prime venues.
