Mango Madness Maraudes Moana, Friday

Mango Madness Maraudes Moana, Friday

The islands are teeming with upscale culinary events this month—and here’s one you won’t want to miss. The finale event in the “Mangoes at the Moana” series is this Friday’s “Tree to Table: A Mango Throw Down” to take place at the Westin Moana Surfrider. (For malihini/visitors who couldn’t already smell it in the air, its mango harvest season in Hawaii.)

From 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., this Friday, August 27, a collection of the islands’ most innovative chefs will battle it out over the best use of a mango, with prizes to be awarded on summation. Take a look at the chefs involved; we’re confident you’ll be clicking to buy tickets before you get through half the list. They are, chefs: Rodney Uyehara of the Moana’s Beachhouse; Jon Matsubara of Azure at the Royal Hawaiian; Ryan Loo of Twist at Hanohano; Colin Hazama of Jean-Georges’ Kauai Grill at the St. Regis Princeville; Peter Merriman; D.K. Kodama; Donato Loperfido; Chai Chaowasaree; Roy Yamaguchi; Hardy Kirschner of Michel’s; Lindsey Ozawa of Nobu Waikiki; Collin Nishida of Side Street Inn; and Russell Sui of 3660 on the Rise, to name but a few.

The “friendly” (not sure that’s a word used with frequency when it comes to chef show-downs) competition will include dishes that; 1. make the best use of a mango, 2. people’s choice, 3. dessert, and, 4. overall best dish.

Tickets are an incredible value, at $75 per.  Proceeds will benefit the Culinary Institute of the Pacific.
