Kona Village's "Taste" Brings Cali Sommelier, Wines

Over on the Big Island, the 82-acre Kona Village Resort is hosting a rather interesting sounding event, entitled "A Taste of the Village", the week of May 21 through May 25. Master Sommelier Brian Cronin hops the pond from the Victorian-lined streets of San Francisco for the thatched roof bungalows of this Big Island resort to showcase select wines from Hanzell Vineyards of Sonoma, and Swanson Vineyards of Napa. Executive chef Mark Tsuchiyama will design his culinary best to pair with Cronin's choice vintages.

Included in the packages are airport transfers, a welcome reception, and five days worth of tastings, demonstrations, shows and informal "Talk Story" with Cronin. A champagne and sparkling wine tasting begins as the sun dips, followed by a Paniolo Dinner and show, spotlighting the Big Island's cowboy culture.

Each day offers free time to explore various aspects of the resort, such as snorkeling off Kahuwai Bay, tennis or exploring the gardens, followed by wine tastings and culinary delights to match. Special events like star gazing with a renowned Big Island astronomer, a Polynesian dance review or a dolphin swim will only enhance the weekend. Tastings include a champagne and sparkling wine sunset event on the first evening, followed by a Paniolo Dinner that spotlights the Big Island's cowboy culture.

Packages start at $4,405 for two persons, including 5-nights, three meals per day, all tastings, culinary demonstrations, transfers, choice of dolphin snorkel adventure, tennis lesson or a 50-minute spa treatment. Additional nights, with meals, begin at $500 for two. Call (800) 367-5290 or visit http://www.konavillage.com for more information and ticketing.
