Hyatt Regency Waikiki and Dane Kealoha Launch Surf Academy

Living Legend and Association of Surfing Professionals' Hall of Famer Dane Kealoha has teamed with the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa to open the "Surf Academy by Dane Kealoha". Accepting students of all ages (starting from 7), Kealoha will focus on beginner to intermediate-level surf instruction. The classes are open to both Hyatt Regency guests, as well as residents and other hotel guests.

Kealoha, who grew up surfing on Oahu, will not only provide safety instruction and basic in-water procedures, but he will teach his students the history of the sport, oceanography and the culture of the Hawaiian people as it relates to surfing and the ocean.

Surf sessions at Kealoha's Surf Academy last 2 hours and are schedule at the following times, Monday through Saturday: 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.

and 2:30 p.m. On Sundays, the academy offers lessons at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The fee for the surf lesson is $100, and includes board and instruction. An additional $40 fee is assessed for those who would like a personalized, take-home CD with photos of their lesson. Private lessons (one-on-one with Kealoha) include the CD and are $300. The Surf Academy also rents boards for $30 per hour.
