Hula Kai Launches Sunset Snorkel And Gourmet BBQ

Travelers to the Big Island shouldn't leave the rock without taking in Hawaii's largest isle from the vantage point of its surrounding waters. The Hula Kai, a 55-foot Technicraft power catamaran, is one of the best ways to do so. Owned and operated by the Dant family, the vessel is their newest in fleet, and offers passengers the most modern amenities in a luxury sailing experience.

While the Hula Kai has been sailing half-day snorkel cruises for over a year, the newest offering is a sunset snorkel, dive and BBQ sail that is limited to 40 passengers. Departing from Kailua-Kona at 3 p.m., the Hula Kai will sail until 7:15 p.m. through August, and transport passengers to locations unreachable by more conventional ocean craft. With the ability to minimize fuel consumption, guests can feel good about diving to view the most pristine of all Hawaiian reef, while using top of the line equipment. The staff is not only knowledgeable in how to operate all snorkel and dive gear, but is familiar with local lore, legend and historical nuances of each of the tour stops.

Ever seen a school of spinner dolphin frolicking at sunset from underwater? Swam with mantas and schools of humuhumu's as the sun set over Hualalai before you? Kicked back with a frosty cold brew and a grass-fed beef hamburger on the sail home, as the sun completely disappears in to Hawaiian waters?

The experience costs $125 plus tax per person, and includes gourmet sunset BBQ fare, all beverages, snorkel gear and instruction. Participants must be at least 8 years old.
