Halekulani Living: A Dinner Gala to Start The Year, Jan. 8

Aside from being Honolulu's chicest address, the Halekulani quietly initiated something called "Halekulani Living" series a few years back, in which they offer wellness-related activities and events to their guests and surrounding community. In the past, these have included sunset yoga sessions with a renowned guru, which was followed by a chocolate and wine tasting; there have also been various health experts who worked in unison with Spakulani, the luxurious spa facility at the ocean-fronting hotel. The first such event of the new year, entitled "An Evening of Sustainable Cuisine", will take place on Friday, January 8, 2010, and feature local culinary luminaries Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi, who will join Halekulani executive chef Vikram Garg to offer a one-off dining experience.

Joining these celebrated chefs will be Kathryn Hall, vintner and proprietor of Hall Wines, of Napa, California; Chuck Furuya, Hawaii's own master sommelier and reputed restaurateur; and Dean Okimoto, president of Nalo Farms and the Hawaii Farm Bureau. The event will last from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and be held in a special ballroom at the Halekulani.

There will be a cocktail reception, followed by cuisine prepared by all three master chefs, plus entertainment. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Culinary Institute of the Pacific, at Diamond Head. There's no doubt the event will sell out: Get your tickets as soon as possible.

Tickets are $150 per person, and an be attained by calling the Halekulani direct at (808) 931-5009.
