Fund Raiser Unites Top Hawaiian Chefs At Mauna Lani

There is an exciting culinary event coming to the Kohala Coast of Hawaii Island (as the Big Island Visitor's Bureau now requests we'refer to the artist formerly known as "The Big Island of Hawaii"). On Saturday, September 22, 2006, The Mauna Lani Resort's "An Evening in Paradise" will align all-star Hawaii-based chefs for a fund raising event to benefit the United Way Hawaii.

Held at one of Kona's toniest locales, at the Mauna Lani's Hale Hoalaoha Pavillion and outdoor area, no less than a dozen top chefs and participating beverage companies will satiate attendees with samples from their respective menus. Participants include D.K. Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant (soon to open at the Queens' Marketplace at Waikoloa); Chef Daniel Thiebaut of his namesake restaurant in Waimea; Eric vonPlaten Luder, GM of Huggo's in Kona; Chef Etsuji Umezu of the Hualalai Resort and Graham Quayle of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai; Chef Mark Tsuchiyama from the Kona Village Resort and Mauna Lani's own James Beard-nominated chef Edwin Goto.

Not only is this the largest single-event fundraiser for United Way, but it is an excellent opportunity for travelers to sample the culinary offerings of nearly every major resort on the Kona-Kohala Coast of Hawaii Island.

Beverage vendors include Kona Brewing Company, Hawai'I Coffee Company, Big Island Delights, Mehana Brewing Company, Southern Wines and Spirits and others.

Tickets are $75 for adults, $40 for children under 11.
