You’ve probably heard the music in the background, and wondered where it was coming from. Or, you were strolling the Waikiki promenade one glorious twilight evening, and said “How come I didn’t know about this show?!”
Now we get to tell you we told you so.
The Waikiki Aquarium’s “Ke Kani O Ke Kai” 2008 Summer Concert Series has been inked, and each show is a not-to-be-missed event. Seriously.
Bands like the ethereal Kaukahi, the Polynesian blended singer-songwriter duo of Hapa, and the rockin’ personality that is Willie K are just a few of the names that will take the outdoor stage just off Kalakaua Avenue this summer. (See below for a complete schedule.)
The vibe makes for the experience. The Aquarium lawn is hidden from the pedestrian sidewalks of Waikiki, and faces directly towards the lapping shores. Shows start an hour before the sun begins to set, giving you plenty of time to set up on the lawn, situate with a beverage, and position that lounge chair or blanket exactly the way you like it. When the music starts, and the sky begins that transition to a spectrum of unmatchable colors—there ain’t a better feeling in the islands.
Doors for each show open at 5:30 p.m.; Aquarium galleries and exhibits remain open during the show, so it’s a great venue to bring the kids. Tickets are $25 each, $10 for children ages 7 to 12. Visit www.waquarium.org or call (808) 440-9015 for more info.
