Ala Moana Shopping Center turned up the holiday heat last week, with the opening of a store that boasts top locally-made products perfect for gift giving. The Menehune Mac Gourmet Hawaiian Boutique features fine Hawaiian-made chocolates, as well as items from the Maui Jelly Factory, Hawaii Popcorn Company, Kona Moon Plantations (Kona coffee), Aikane Plantations (Ka`u coffee) and Pacific Place Tea Garden. There are also locally-produced hand bags, jewelry, sarong, gift baskets, BBQ sauces, spices, Hawaiian Sea Salt and more. Everything in the store can be shipped to friends, relatives, or to yourself on the mainland—directly from the store (via USPS Flat Rate shipping).
We sampled a variety of Menehune Mac custom chocolates at the opening event, and can guarantee this is where the majority of our outbound holiday gifts for foodie friends will come from. Their dark chocolate and Kona coffee was a highlight, as was the dark chocolate and arare mix (a lovely blend of sweet and salty). We were impressed at their efforts with sugar-free chocolate, which, although usually unpalatable, was definitely worth a taste.
The folks inside the shop are eager to allow patrons to sample products they may be interested in purchasing. We can't guarantee you'll be able to taste as much as we did, but you can sure try.
Care for a little-known fact? Menehune Mac has been crafting fine chocolates since 1939. Their milk chocolate blend is crafted by Guittard Chocolate Company of San Francisco. With a box of chocolates that starts at $6, this is the spot for budget-conscious fine foodies this holiday season!
The seasonal retail outlet is located between Neiman Marcus and Dior, on the second level. Visit www.MenehuneMac.com for more information.
