We’ve said it before: This dismal economy has its silver linings. Today, it comes in the form of a stellar “stay-cation” for kama‘aina interested in heading to the Valley Isle between now and the end of the year. Kapalua, Maui is the destination.
The smart folk at Outrigger Resorts—who now manage the array of villas that span the spruce and pine-lined lanes at this upcountry resort—are offering Gold Villa stays starting at $229 per night, through December 20, 2010.
Why would you go to Kapalua, you might ask? First off, Kapalua has more than its share of fine restaurants that would justify NOT needing to rent a car (and taking advantage of the free Kapalua shuttle around the resort). Between Pineapple Grill, Merriman’s Kapalua, Sansei, Banyan Tree and Kai Sushi (the latter two at the Ritz-Carlton), we’re confident you’ll be well-fed during your stay.
Second, the same Kapalua Shuttle will pick you up at the hassle-free (read: no full body TSA scans) Kapalua airport.
Third, if you’re a golf aficionado, the Arnold Palmer-designed Plantation and Bay courses offer unrivaled vistas of neighboring Lana‘i and Moloka‘i, not to mention the breaching humpbacks you’re sure to see between drives. Heck, if it’s good enough for the Mercedes-cum-SBS Championship PGA players every year, we’re sure you’ll enjoy yourself.
Fourth, the Ritz-Carlton’s Ambassadors of the Environment program offers fun-for-the-whole-family cultural, adventure and environmental education activities that range from crafts to guided hikes in a protected arboretum and underwater photography courses.
Finally, the tony (and highly under-utilized—Kapalua is having a hard time selling their poorly timed, albeit lovely, villas) Kapalua Spa is offering kama‘aina big breaks on spa treatments during the same period, such as three 50-minute treatments for $399. It’s a perfect “stocking stuffer” for the spouse who doesn’t golf, yet doesn’t care to be left with nothing to do when you hit the links!
Get out and see the islands this holiday season. We’re lucky we live aloha!
