Chai Celebrates Dual Anniversaries on November 20th at Aloha Tower

You know him as the smiley faced restaurateur-about-town, always at the happening spot at the right time. On Friday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m., Chai Chaowasaree will host a culinary party the likes of which we have yet to see in 2009, to celebrate the coinciding 20th anniversary of Singha Thai and the 10th of Chai's Island Bistro. The party will be rooted at Chai's Aloha Tower restaurant, as more than 20 close friends (and some of Hawaii's best chefs) will plate their favorite dishes at food and beverage stations outdoors, stretching all the way to the harbor.

Since we love the food porn as much as you do, we thought we'd share not only the chefs who will partake in this extravaganza, but the dishes they will be presenting. They include: Chef Russell Siu of 3660 On the Rise, who will feature a pan seared wild salmon with pickled Maui onion and a yuzu butter sauce; Chef Rodney Uyehara of Beach House at the Moana Surfrider will show off his diver scallop "sandwich" with Nalo greens and citrus butter; Chef Mavro's Kevin Chong will plate up a dayboat ceviche with Manchego croquette, while Jason Miyasaki of DK Steak House will serve a filet of beef tenderloin with crab "Oscars" and Bearnaise; Chef Hiroshi Fukui of Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas will create a steamed Kurobuta pork belly with torched brie cheese, ginger, shiso and "adobo" glaze.

Other chefs-restaurants represented will include Le Bistro, Michel's, JJ French Pastry, Ola, Poke Stop, Sansei, Tango and Vino.

Chef Chai will put up a pair of featured dishes from his Aloha Tower restaurant, as well as one from Singha. They are: Baby abalone with mesclun greens and tangerine vinaigrette, poached pear, teardrop tomato and candied walnut; Mongolian-style lamb chops with Merlot demiglace, mashed potato and stir-fried sugar snap peas; and Lemongrass and curry crusted breast of chicken, with Thai peanut sauce and cucumber salad.

If you're more in to the serve-yourself kind of party, fear not, you will be accommodated. Chai will roll out a buffet station that includes Alaskan King crab cakes, Thai curry puffs, spring rolls, oysters, jumbo shrimp and crab claws. Of course, there will be multiple beverage offerings, including a saké sampling bar and Ka`u coffee.

As usual, Chai won't skimp on the entertainment: He is bringing in a list of "who's who" performers to fill the air with aloha. They include Olomana, Sista Robi, and the Brothers Cazimero (with their complete halau of 15 dancers).

Tickets range from a VIP reserved table package that comes with waiter service, and costs $1,500 for a ten-top, to individual tickets at $90 per person, which includes all food, drink and entertainment.

At 9:00 p.m., the food and wine will shut down, but the party continues with Russell Tanoue's "after-hours", until 2:00 a.m.
