Celebrity Chef Tour: To Mauna Lani in 2011

Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows will host a historic culinary event in early 2011, when James Beard Foundation's "The Celebrity Chef Tour" stops-off here on January 21st and 22nd. Spotlighted chefs Michael Symon (star of Iron Chef America and restaurateur, Cleveland's Lola and Lolita ) and Jonathan Waxman (author and star of Top Chef Masters, also owner of Barbuto in NYC's West Village) will anchor the foodie event.

The first time such James Beard event of this magnitude has been held in the Hawaiian Islands, "The Tour" participants will work alongside Mauna Lani's executive chef Sandy Tuason. The Mauna Lani chef has spent considerable "star time" working under famous knife slingers like Daniel Boulud, David Burke and Andrew D'Amico.

Symon, Waxman and Tuason will hand-pick ingredients from Hawaii Island farms before ducking in to the kitchens to prepare for attendees of the weekend affair.

Friday's welcome reception and wine tasting is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where patrons will have the opportunity to mingle with the weekend's featured guests. On Saturday, January 22, the multi-course dinner will kick off at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets cost $300 per person and include entrance to both evening's events. Proceeds will go to the James Beard Foundation, which celebrates and preserves America's culinary heritage through scholarships, publications, awards and the maintenance of the historic James Beard House in New York City.

Mauna Lani is offering attendeeds a 15% discount on all room rates from January 20 – 25 to entice food enthusiasts to enjoy this illustrious celebration of the food arts. Note: The numbers of tickets sold will be limited.
