Venerable Maui Seafood Eatery to Launch Sustainable Fishing Practices Aid

Mama's Fish House in Ku‘au, Maui, has always led the charge in giving credit where credit is due. Long before "Farm-to-Table" was a trend, the venerable culinary attraction located on the slopes of Haleakala was printing the names of vessels and captains who were responsible for getting fresh-caught fish from the ocean to your table. Now, the eatery's owners and executive chef, Perry Bateman, have announced that they will sponsor the deployment of a new fishing buoy in waters 30 miles off the northeastern coast of Maui.

Upstart eatery 100 Wines, located in the Lahaina Gateway Center on Maui, has launched a bold food and wine pairing program this fall, with hopes of “transporting” guests around the globe without having to leave The Valley Isle. Aiming  to attract Valley Isle oenophiles,

Perfect Pairing: Poke, Sauvignon and a Maui Sunset

One Wailea resort sets out to indulge, explore and exploit two complimentary flavors

Sometimes, and might we stress that it isn’t often, a big resort “gets it right” and presents a unique pairing of events that is out-of-the-box and utterly enticing. Take the Makena Beach Resort in beautiful Wailea, Maui; they’ve brought together the world’s youngest master sommelier (Honolulu’s own Patrick Okubo), and that delightfully Hawaiian treat—poke—for an evening that will explore the finer aspects of both.

Kapalua's New Chef Dishes Up Oktoberfest Splendor

Isaac Bancaco arrives at Pineapple Grill from refined tutelage to helm this Maui "local's favorite" eatery

The changing-of-the-guard, or chef, at a “locals favorite" restaurant is heralded as a significant event here in Hawai‘i. So it became noteworthy when Maui’s Pineapple Grill, at Kapalua, bid farewell to Ryan Luckey—who garnered numerous regional awards for this impressive, off-the-beaten-fairway eatery—and ushered in another “local boy gone big.” Isaac Bancaco has cooked on the front lines for...

13th Maui Film Festival a Roaring Success

James Marsden, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Radnor and others will enjoy screenings, panels, culinary events and more in tony Wailea

This Wednesday, June 13, 2012, a considerable amount of magic will unfold on the sugar sand beaches (and nearby climes) of Wailea, Maui. So will begin the 13th Annual Maui Film Festival—the brain child of Barry Rivers—and the unofficial pride of West Maui that enables A-list celebrities to rub elbows with the rest of us along a bucolic stretch of paradise (we really wanted to use another word here, but none fits as aptly).

Sammy Hagar to Distill Rum on Maui

Red Rocker Sees Green in Hawaii Liquor

Sammy Hagar, of Van Halen fame (or infamy, depending on which side of the fence you pump your fist), is bestowing a special little New Year's treat on the residents of Alohaland—and eventually the world. It seems "Mr. Tequila" is branching out into the distillation world (after selling his Cabo Wabo tequila brand for a whopping $100 million, yowza),

Sammy Hagar to Distill Rum on Maui

Red Rocker sees Green in Hawaii Liquor

Sammy Hagar, of Van Halen fame (or infamy, depending on which side of the fence you pump your fist), is headed to Hawai‘i this November to bestow a special little treat on the residents of Alohaland—and eventually the world. It seems "Mr. Tequila" is branching out into the distillation world, this time down rum avenue (like a good pirate). And the fruits of his labor will be only available to Hawai‘i residents for the first few months of production.

Restaurant Week Wailea: There's Still Time to Eat!

There’s still time to head over to Wailea to indulge in some hefty “Restaurant Week” binge eating and, without question, the eating is good. Having seen significant growth throughout the years since the posh folks in Wailea launched the effort has proven that the effort is worth repeating. Pre-fixe menus range from $29 to $39 or $49 dollars, depending on venue and items ordered.

Pineapple Grill Maui to Celebrate Anniversary with Tasty Benefit

One of our favorite locales—statewide—is the charming Pineapple Grill at Kapalua. Chef Ryan Luckey’s food is innovative and island-harvested; managing partner Chris Kaiwi’s wine knowledge (and selection) is only topped by his style of managing an efficient and pleasant staff (his penchant for lesser-known cheese imports is also impressive) and the list goes on. Yet, like any restaurant that stands out, it’s always been the delicate balance (or dance, a friend likes to say) of all these things and more that make Pineapple Grill such a standout.
On Saturday, May 28, 2011, Pineapple Grill celebrates
