The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua will close during an extensive $95 million renovation, directly following the 2007 Kapalua Wine & Food Festival, to be held the final weekend in June. Perhaps the bigger story is in the numbers: The hotel will transform its current 548 rooms in to 363 renovated guestrooms and 107 one and two-bedroom full-ownership "Residential Suites". Although the "T" word (timeshare) is strictly forbidden by Ritz-Carlton, the suites will in fact be available for rental to the public.

"Cassis Honolulu" will open on the corner of Nimitz and Bethel in Chinatown by May 1st, following a two-month redecoration to be overseen by designer Mary Philpotts.

Organic Grower Wins Best In Show At Kona Coffee Festival And Competition

Pearl Estate Organics took home the coveted first prize at this fall's Kona Coffee Cupping Competition held at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island. Pat Pearlman, owner of Pearl Estate, owns two acres of coffee trees in Honaunau at an elevation of 1,900 ft. The estate is certified organic by the Hawaii Organic Farmers Association -- and has been in operation for 12 years.
